Chapter 707 - 707: Togekiss's Whereabouts
Chapter 707 - 707: Togekiss's Whereabouts
"Do you know where Togekiss is?" Gary asked."Mm."
Friede nodded, confirming that he knew.
"Take me to find Togekiss," Gary said.
"No."
Friede shook his head, refusing.
"Why?"
Friede didn't hide his reason and said directly, "As a Trainer, you failed to properly manage your Pokémon. Don't you feel that's a dereliction of duty?"
Gary was stunned. He was being lectured.
Thinking of Togekiss's nature, Gary suddenly had a bad feeling. He looked at the building in front of him. Could it be that an experiment was being conducted inside, and Togekiss had caused some kind of trouble in there?
"You're right, that's on me. But how is Togekiss right now?" Gary asked.
"Togekiss isn't in any serious danger, but it can't come out for the time being," Friede said.
"Can you stop being so vague? Just tell me the truth," Gary said.
"There's nothing I can do about that. This involves company secrets. All I can tell you is that your Pokémon has caused some trouble and won't be able to leave for a short while. But rest assured, once this matter is resolved, the company will return your Pokémon to you," Friede said.
"And that's your attitude toward returning it to me? Also… can you even make that call?" Gary asked.
"There's really nothing I can do. This involves company secrets, and calling the police won't help either. If any real damage is caused, as the Trainer, you'll be responsible for compensation," Friede advised.
"If there's damage, I'll compensate for it. But if your company wants to keep hiding things from me, then I have no choice but to pull some strings," Gary said.
Friede paused. He realized he still didn't know Gary's name, especially considering the strength of that Togekiss. This boy in front of him clearly wasn't someone ordinary.
"What kind of connections can you actually use?" Friede asked.
"My full name is Gary Oak. I was invited to the Paldea region by Chairwoman Geeta. My grandfather is Professor Oak," Gary said. Worried that his usual credentials might not be enough, he brought Geeta into it.
Geeta wasn't just the chairwoman of the Naranja Academy—she was also the president of the Paldea League.
"Really? You're Professor Oak's grandson!" Friede said in surprise. He hadn't expected Gary to have such a big background.
Gary: "Do I need to lie to you?"
"It's not that. I just need you to prove your identity," Friede said.
Gary didn't waste words. He pulled out his Pokédex and displayed his ID.
Seeing that it carried Professor Oak's endorsement, along with Gary's photo and full name, Friede accepted Gary's identity.
"Alright, then I'll help you contact the president of the company. If the president is unwilling to help, then you'll have to fall back on those connections of yours," Friede said.
"Sure."
Gary agreed.
"You trust me just like that?" Friede was a little surprised. This was the first time they had met, with no prior interaction. Why did Gary trust his words so easily?
"I think you're a good person," Gary said.
Friede: "..."
For some reason, Friede felt as if he had just been mocked, but he couldn't quite pinpoint why.
"Wait here for a moment. I'll make a call," Friede said, taking out his phone and stepping aside.
Gary didn't follow him. He trusted Friede—he was one of the protagonists of Horizons, after all. His character had to be reliable.
Friede spent several minutes on the call before finally walking back to Gary. "Mr. Cervantis would like to meet you. Come with me."
Friede led Gary into Exceed Company. The two guards at the entrance seemed to have received orders through their radios, because they didn't stop them this time.
"It's this late, and the president of your company is still at work?" Gary asked.
"Yes. Mr. Cervantis works very hard and often stays late. Even after all the researchers have gone home, he still hasn't left," Friede said, with clear admiration in his voice. It was obvious he thought highly of this Cervantis.
The two took the elevator up to the seventh floor, arriving at the door of the president's office. Friede stepped forward and knocked.
"Come in."
Hearing the voice, Friede pushed the door open, and Gary followed close behind.
Inside the office, Gary saw a middle-aged man with dark hair, dressed in a suit and tie. The man looked serious and old-fashioned, yet somehow gave off an approachable feeling as well.
"Hello. You must be Professor Oak's grandson," Cervantis said, standing up on his own and walking over to greet him.
"I'm sorry my Pokémon caused you trouble. If any real damage was done to your company, I'll cover the costs," Gary said.
"There's no need for that." Cervantis smiled. "Actually, no real damage was done. It's just that Togekiss took something we've been researching and stored it in its held item slot. That object releases a certain kind of energy, and once a Pokémon absorbs it, they go into a frenzy."
"Your Togekiss is far too strong. Ordinary Pokémon can't stand up to it at all. All we can do right now is hold it in place temporarily and wait for it to tire out, so we can safely remove what it's carrying."
Gary was very curious. What exactly had Togekiss taken? What kind of object could send it into a frenzy?
"What is it that Togekiss took?" Gary asked.
"I'm sorry. That's a company secret. I can't disclose that for now. Please understand," Cervantis said.
Gary couldn't press the issue further. After all, his own Pokémon was in the wrong. It wasn't the company's fault that Togekiss had taken something that didn't belong to it.
"Then can I at least see Togekiss?"
"That… should be fine. But you'll only be able to see it through surveillance," Cervantis said.
"Can we go now?"
"Mr. Gary really cares about his Pokémon. Come with me."
Cervantis led Gary and Friede out of the office. They took the elevator down to the first floor, then exited through the back of the building and entered another facility behind the main structure.
This building was similar in scale to Professor Oak's Laboratory. Clearly, it was a place dedicated to research, with an underground archive and lab that was likely more than ten times the size of the visible part.
There were guards at the door here as well, but with Cervantis present, they didn't object and let all three of them in.
They entered a room inside the laboratory—a monitoring room with three people in white coats, all of whom appeared to be researchers.
As soon as Gary stepped inside, he saw a massive LCD screen mounted on the wall, monitoring a scene. On the screen, a white Pokémon was floating over an enclosed field—Togekiss.
However, Togekiss was clearly not in a good condition. Its face bore a vicious, violent expression, and it was still locked in combat with another Pokémon. That Pokémon, though, had already been defeated by Togekiss.
