Chapter 100 Ghost
Chapter 100 Ghost
"Lord Zhen, where exactly are you keeping them locked up?"
The passageway was long and tedious, and Luo Sifan grew tired of walking, impatiently urging him on from behind.
"Shut up!"
Without turning his head, Lord Zhen whispered a rebuke, but his attitude was not so relaxed.
Luo Sifan's face darkened further; he didn't know why the woman's attitude had suddenly turned so hostile.
At this moment, a faint, strange sound came from deep within the passageway, fluctuating and unpredictable. Luo Sifan listened intently, and it sounded like a human voice, or perhaps it was his own illusion.
Zhao Lingfei, who was behind Luo Sifan, changed color upon hearing the sound and hesitated in her tracks.
City Lord Zhen, who was in front, also paused upon hearing the sound. His hands moved rapidly, and a faint light appeared in front of him as he quickly outlined something resembling a magic array.
Luo Sifan, still confused, listened intently to the increasingly obvious strange noises and took a few steps to stand beside Lord Zhen.
With a soft thud, Luo Sifan crashed into a wall and fell backward. The place where he was hit was sore and painful, and Luo Sifan was dizzy and his spiritual energy was fluctuating.
Fortunately, Luo Sifan's innate sword body was self-aware, and after taking a few unsteady steps, he dissipated the recoil force, allowing him to regain his footing and come to his senses.
"Hey! Stop right there and don't move!"
Seeing that he was shaken, Zhao Lingfei didn't bother to tease him. She rushed forward and helped him up, then coldly scolded him.
"Didn't you see my mother stopped? You're still brazenly pushing forward!"
The lingering effects of the shock to Luo Sifan's soul were still present, and his face was pale. Zhao Lingfei could feel his body still trembling, and couldn't help but complain.
Upon closer inspection, Luo Sifan noticed that the unmoving figure of City Lord Zhen was indeed quite unusual, and the void on either side of his body was also fluctuating in an unusual way.
"Um... Miss Zhao, I was distracted by a strange noise just now. Did you hear it too?"
Luo Sifan's actions were somewhat impolite, so he immediately looked at Zhao Lingfei and sincerely explained.
"No wonder!"
Zhao Lingfei sighed softly, realizing something. This was something they had overlooked.
"Young Master Lin, you must not be distracted by such strange noises! Otherwise, you may easily lose your mind!"
Zhao Lingfei gave Luo Sifan a stern warning.
"Why? Could it be that there's some kind of demon or monster inside?"
Unable to contain his curiosity, Luo Sifan pressed Zhao Lingfei for answers.
Zhao Lingfei hesitated for a moment, then, remembering Luo Sifan's identity, gritted her teeth and whispered:
“Since Young Master Lin is one of us, there’s no harm in speaking up. Those strange noises ahead are actually… the howls of ghosts. Since you’re new to this, you’re bound to be tempted by them. Just keep your mind focused and treat them as if they’re nothing, and you’ll be fine.”
Luo Sifan's face showed surprise. A ghost? What is that? Qi Xiu's spiritual energy had allowed him to witness astral projection, but regardless of whether the physical body was alive or dead, it didn't seem to have this ability.
"You know, things are a bit special here. The world is incomplete, so... the souls of the dead will be somewhat different from those on your side..."
Zhao Lingfei gave a brief explanation, unwilling to elaborate, and a faint worry appeared on her face.
Luo Sifan was still completely confused, but he had roughly guessed some of it. Cultivators above the Nascent Soul Realm could be said to have souls that were as long-lived as heaven and earth. For City Lord Zhen to be so wary, the level of souls here must be quite high.
However, Fangyuan City itself is only a small, incomplete piece of heaven and earth, inherently deficient and with incomplete rules. The souls of high-level cultivators here will probably undergo some changes accordingly!
Seeing that he no longer pressed for answers and seemed lost in thought, Zhao Lingfei was pleased and began to tell Luo Sifan other things:
"The spirits here are unruly. Every time they come, my mother uses magic to protect herself. What you just encountered was the Five Elements True Realm, which simulates the entirety of heaven and earth, and is most effective at suppressing spirits!"
Luo Sifan nodded, noticing the void fluctuations spreading from beside City Lord Zhen.
"on!"
Zhao Lingfei cleverly lifted Luo Sifan up and moved almost simultaneously with Gui Yutu behind him, leaping into the space a foot behind City Lord Zhen.
Once Lord Zhen's Five Elements True Realm Array was completed, it felt almost completely different to the living people like Luo Sifan.
Luo Sifan crashed into a chaotic realm where the Five Elements were just beginning to emerge, and the spiritual energy of City Lord Zhen was surging within it, which is why he was so violently shaken.
Lord Zhen did not turn around to give any instructions. The three of them continued forward in tacit agreement under the protection of the Five Elements True Realm.
Zhao Lingfei held Luo Sifan tightly in her hand, not feeling comfortable letting him go alone.
Outside the Five Elements True Realm, the strange sounds no longer had any effect on Luo Sifan. The sounds were clear as well, the dry laughter and conversations of several people rising and falling.
They were speaking the local language of Fangyuan City, and Luo Sifan couldn't understand a single word.
As the light dimmed, Luo Sifan followed City Lord Zhen out of the passageway and arrived at a spacious, high hall inlaid with bricks and stones.
Rows of what appeared to be coffins were neatly arranged in the hall, casting a dim, cold light. Three people of different heights and with dark skin were gathered among the coffins, discussing something. Some were standing, some were sitting, and they were using the coffins as tables and chairs, looking quite relaxed.
They were not surprised by the arrival of Lord Zhen, but turned the two points of white light in the dark figure to look at Luo Sifan and the others. Even through the Five Elements True Realm, Luo Sifan was chilled by the white light.
Lord Zhen led them into the group of coffins, stopped a few feet away, and began a long conversation with the three of them.
Luo Sifan was relieved to hear that their tone was not tense or hostile.
During the conversation, Luo Sifan was clearly mentioned. The three of them stared intently at Luo Sifan, their eyes flashing with a white light.
For no apparent reason, Luo Sifan felt a chill creep up from the soles of her feet, almost standing there frozen and numb.
The jade pendant at his waist suddenly shone brightly, expelling the terrifying chill from Luo Sifan's body.
The three ghosts in the coffin took in the strange phenomenon of the jade pendant, their emotions fluctuated, and the white light in their eyes flickered for several breaths.
Then, the tallest ghost, without touching the ground, floated to a corner of the hall and stopped in front of a coffin against the wall.
The coffin lid was lifted, and it floated to one side.
A lifeless human body slowly rose from the coffin, with a familiar head of black hair hanging down from the air.
"Lin Qianxiu!"
Luo Sifan gasped in disbelief.
Despite the distance and the dim light, the features of the stiff, human-shaped figure immediately reminded Luo Sifan of Lin Qianxiu.
"Don't be impatient!"
Lord Zhen frowned slightly at Luo Sifan's loss of composure and gently reprimanded Luo Sifan behind him.
The tall ghost and Lin Qianxiu, who was floating beside him, spun together and glided back through the void.
Luo Sifan watched Lin Qianxiu getting closer and closer anxiously, confirming that it was indeed her. She dared not say anything or make any rash moves.
Lin Qianxiu's exposed skin was so white it was almost unreal, but it didn't look like a corpse either, which reassured Luo Sifan somewhat.
Lord Zhen glanced back at Luo Sifan and said indifferently:
"Don't worry too much, she's far from dead."
