Chapter 4 Survival Supplies
Chapter 4 Survival Supplies
"Wait!" The old priest stood up shakily. "Child, take us with you! We can help too..."
"You can't help," Lin Mo said without turning his head. "Besides, I don't support idlers."
"We can..."
"There are lizardmen outside, man-eating giant rats, and a three-story-tall cyclops." Lin Mo interrupted him, "If you're not afraid of death, then come along. Let me tell you in advance, I won't help you."
The church was deathly silent.
Lin Mo pushed open the side door and led Hammer and two skeleton soldiers out.
Behind me came the old priest's desperate prayer.
Lin Mo showed no pity.
In his past life, he had seen too many overly kind people who ended up not even knowing how they died. In this apocalypse, kindness is the most expensive luxury.
He can't afford it.
......
Stepping out of the church, the chaos outside was even worse than before.
The Cyclops had already destroyed half a street and was tearing apart the wreckage of a bus. In the distance, several lizardmen were chasing a fleeing man; the screams quickly ceased.
Lin Mo lowered his body and moved quickly along the wall, with two skeleton soldiers protecting him and Hammer from the front and back.
"How...how can you control them?" Hammer followed behind, his voice trembling. "How do these skeletons move?"
"They are not monsters," Lin Mo said calmly. "They are soldiers, my soldiers."
"Are you a wizard?"
"You can think of it that way."
Hammer seemed thoughtful, but did not ask any further questions.
"Where is your car?" Lin Mo asked.
"At the intersection ahead, there's that blue Ford."
The two quickly moved to the car, which was fortunately undamaged. Hammer took out his keys and opened the door. Lin Mo let the two skeleton soldiers climb into the back seat, while he sat in the passenger seat.
"Let's go to the nearest supermarket," Lin Mo said. "A large supermarket, the kind that sells food and water."
"I know one, Walmart, three kilometers south." Hammer started the car. "But there might be..."
boom!
A lizard-like creature suddenly lunged out from the side, crashing into the car door with such force that the car shook violently. It lay on the window, its vertical pupils fixed on the two people inside, its mouth full of sharp teeth agape.
Hammer was terrified; his hands were trembling.
Lin Mo remained calm, pulled out a crowbar from his waist, rolled down the car window a crack, and suddenly poked it out.
The sharp end of the crowbar pierced the lizardman's eye, and green blood spurted out. The lizardman let out a piercing scream and tumbled off the vehicle.
"Drive." Lin Mo's voice was as calm as if he were saying that the weather was nice today.
Hammer floored the accelerator, and the car shot forward.
In the back seat, the two skeleton soldiers remained motionless, their will-o'-the-wisps flickering eerily in their eye sockets.
Hammer saw them in the rearview mirror and swallowed hard.
Who exactly is this person?
......
Five minutes later, the car stopped in front of Walmart.
The situation at the supermarket was not much better than on the street; the glass doors were smashed, there were several burning cars in the parking lot, and several bodies lay on the ground.
But there are still lights inside, so there should still be electricity.
Lin Mo pushed open the door and got out of the car, followed by two skeleton soldiers. Hammer hesitated for a moment, then climbed out of the driver's seat and took out a baseball bat from the trunk.
"Stay close to me, don't fall behind," Lin Mo said as he walked into the supermarket.
The entrance was a mess, with shelves overturned and goods scattered all over the floor. Some people were already doing "zero-dollar shopping" inside, and a few young black men were loading TVs and stereos into shopping carts.
Upon seeing Lin Mo enter, and especially upon seeing the two skeleton soldiers behind him, the group of young black men were so frightened that they dropped their carts and ran away.
"Idiot." Lin Mo scoffed. "Moving a TV in the apocalypse? Are you stupid?"
He quickly glanced at the supermarket layout.
The food area is on the left, the drinking water area is on the right, and further in is the outdoor equipment area.
A distinctive feature of Walmart in North America... is that it sells guns.
Lin Mo recalls that many Walmart supermarkets had gun counters, selling shotguns, rifles, pistols, and crossbows.
"Hammer, bring two handcarts over."
Hammer did as instructed.
Lin Mo led the skeleton soldiers straight to the food section and started throwing things into the car: canned goods, compressed biscuits, energy bars, bottled water—all high-calorie, easy-to-store items were swept away.
The two handcarts were quickly filled.
"Go push two more," Lin Mo said.
Hammer had just turned around when a rough voice rang out from behind him.
"Hey! Yellow-skinned monkey, put down the cart and get out!"
Lin Mo turned his head and saw a burly white man standing at the end of the corridor, holding an AR-15 rifle with the muzzle pointed directly at him.
Behind the burly man stood three other men: two large white men and one black man, all of whom were holding guns.
"Everything here is ours." The burly man grinned, revealing a missing front tooth. "Those who know what's good for them will get lost, and those who don't will die."
Hammer turned pale with fright and instinctively took a step back.
Lin Mo stood still, motionless, with a slight smile on his lips.
"What did you say? I didn't hear you."
The burly man frowned: "Are you fucking deaf...?"
Before he could finish speaking, Lin Mo snapped his fingers.
The two skeleton soldiers moved at the same time, and at the same time, Lin Mo pulled Hammer to hide behind a pillar.
Gunshots rang out, but the bullets hit the skeleton soldiers without causing any effective damage, and most of the bullets even missed. The two skeleton soldiers were so fast that they didn't look like skeletons. They rushed in front of the strong man in one step, and swept their iron swords, directly cutting the strong man's wrist holding the gun.
Snapped!
The other person's severed wrist fell to the ground.
The AR-15 also fell to the ground, and the burly man clutched his severed wrist, screaming in agony. Another skeleton soldier charged at the other three, its round shield smashing into one of them in the face, breaking his nose and spurting blood.
The remaining two tried to fire, but the skeleton soldiers were too fast and impervious to bullets. A rusty iron sword pierced the stomach of one of the white men, while the other black man was grabbed by the head by a skeleton soldier and slammed against the wall.
Boom!
The Black man slid and fell to the ground.
The entire process takes no more than five seconds.
All four armed thugs fell to the ground.
Lin Mo walked over, picked up the AR-15 from the ground, and checked the magazine.
He also found three spare magazines on the burly man and clipped them to his belt.
"Guns are great, but the people who use them are terrible." Lin Mo slung the AR-15 over his shoulder and said to Hammer, "What are you standing there for? Push the cart."
Hammer opened his mouth wide, unable to close it for a long time.
He looked at the two skeleton soldiers, then at Lin Mo, his eyes shifting from fear to awe.
Could this person really be a demon?
......
Lin Mo led the skeleton soldiers to the weapons counter. The glass case had been smashed, but there were still many weapons inside.
He glanced at it quickly and started loading it into the cart...
Two Remington 870 shotguns, suitable for close-quarters combat.
A Luger 10/22 rifle is lightweight and its ammunition is readily available.
Three Glock 19 pistols, with 200 rounds of ammunition.
There's also a crossbow, a silent weapon that's surprisingly effective against low-level undead.
They also took a bulletproof vest, a tactical flashlight, a walkie-talkie, a rope, a flint and steel, and a first-aid kit.
Lin Mo glanced at his watch; it was 4:52.
Eight minutes left.
"That's enough, let's go."
The two pushed four handcarts out, with two skeleton soldiers bringing up the rear.
Just as Lin Mo stepped out of the supermarket, he suddenly stopped.
He felt the amulet on his chest burning hot, hotter than ever before.
Lin Mo suddenly looked up at the distant sky.
The sky grew darker, three moons hung in the sky, and purple nebulae swirled slowly. An indescribable smell filled the air, like a mixture of ozone and rotting flesh.
The air density in the other world has increased.
It was faster than expected.
"Go back!" Lin Mo made a decisive decision.
The two pushed the supplies back into the supermarket.
