Chapter 86 The Death of He Mang
Chapter 86 The Death of He Mang
"Gordon!" Levi shouted, reaching out to support him.
Li Wei looked in He Mang's direction, a sense of despair rising in his heart.
He Mang's men pressed closer and closer, and the heavy machine gun fire became increasingly intense.
The altar's wooden planks were riddled with holes, and the flames had spread to their side. The scorching heat made even Li Wei's hair smell of burning.
He Mang walked to a spot not far from the altar, looked at the two people hiding behind it, and a smug smile appeared on his face.
He raised his hand, signaling his men to stop firing, and slowly walked forward, a pistol in his hand.
"Chief Gordon, and Mr. Levi, come out here quietly, or I'll make sure you don't die a horrible death."
Li Wei held Gordon tightly, showing no sign of backing down despite He Mang's relentless pressure.
Even if it meant death, Li Wei would never abandon his comrades.
Just then, a gunshot rang out from behind He Mang.
He Mang's body stiffened abruptly. He looked down at his chest, where blood gushed from the wound, staining his suit red.
Levi and Gordon were stunned by what they saw. They never expected that the guy would be the one to fire the shot.
He Mang slowly turned around with an incredulous look on his face and saw Cope Potter standing not far behind him, the gold-plated revolver in his hand still smoking.
Copeport's eyes were cold, devoid of any warmth.
If facial expressions could be visualized, He Mang's head would definitely be covered in question marks right now.
His lips moved, as if he wanted to ask why.
However, blood flowed from his mouth, and he could only make weak sounds.
He Mang swayed and fell heavily to the ground, kicking up a cloud of dust.
His men, witnessing this scene, all stopped what they were doing and didn't know what to do.
Before they could react, a team of reinforcements attacked the group and quickly took them down.
The officers bypassed Cobb and rushed directly to Levi and Gordon.
"Chief, Mr. Li Wei, are you alright?"
Robin, who was leading the group, saluted the two men and then asked them a question with concern.
"You've come just in time, we're fine."
Gordon clutched his arm, smiled at Robin, and thought to himself, "It feels pretty good to have escaped death."
"Buddy, stop being a hero. You go to the hospital first. I'll take care of things here."
Li Wei pointed to Gordon's injured arm, indicating that Robin should take him to the hospital for treatment.
"I'm fine..."
Before Gordon could finish speaking, his face suddenly turned pale, and cold sweat poured down his forehead.
Gordon hadn't felt the surge of adrenaline just moments before, but now he felt a piercing pain in his arm.
"Robin, I order you to take Chief Gordon to the hospital immediately!"
Li Wei yelled, and Robin reacted, calling for a police officer to help. They grabbed Gordon and carried him away.
Before they left, Levi asked Robin to leave the pistol to him.
In such a chaotic scene, not having a gun in his hand made him feel very unsafe.
After Gordon left, Levi looked up and his eyes met Copport's in mid-air.
Looking at the person who started all this, Li Wei was also filled with doubt.
He couldn't understand why this guy would betray his ally at the last minute and choose to help him instead.
After thinking for a moment, Li Wei lifted his leg and walked towards Copport.
He felt he had to express his gratitude to the person who had saved his life.
Copeland looked at Levi walking towards him, his feelings were also very complicated.
He just took care of Sofia with that gold-plated revolver.
The oversized bullet pierced her heart, leaving a hole in her chest.
Thinking of Sophia lying in a pool of blood, her eyes filled with resentment and disbelief, Copport felt much better even if he failed this time.
He looked at He Mang's corpse on the ground, but felt no emotion whatsoever.
He slowly raised his head, his gaze piercing through the thick smoke and flames, landing on Li Wei, who was walking towards him beside the altar.
Copeport's gaze softened as he looked past Levi and onto Frances behind him.
Frances was staring at him with wide eyes, her gaze filled with worry and fear.
The wound on her shoulder was still bleeding, but thankfully her life was not in danger.
Two police officers were watching him nervously, but Cobblestone did not make any move.
He knew that if he made any unusual movement before Li Wei approached, he would be met with bullets from the police.
Once he was sure Frances was alright, his tense body instantly relaxed.
The madness and murderous intent in his eyes gradually faded, leaving only the relief of surviving a disaster.
He slowly lowered his hand, and with a loosening of his fingers, the gold-plated revolver fell to the ground with a dull thud.
"I surrender."
His voice was hoarse. He glanced at the two officers beside him and gestured to them.
Then he lifted his leg and walked towards Li Wei, his steps slow and heavy.
His suit was stained with blood and dust, making him look like a gentleman who had walked out of hell.
Following Copeport's gaze, Levi glanced back and saw Frances not far behind him. Instantly, he understood everything.
Cobb killed He Mang not out of a sudden pang of conscience or because he had made some kind of deal with him, but to protect his mother.
—As long as He Mang lives, Frances will always be in danger.
Thinking of this, Li Wei's steps quickened by a third.
But as he walked toward Copeport, he didn't notice that He Mang's eyelids twitched slightly on the ground.
As Li Wei passed by He Mang, He Mang, who was lying on the ground, suddenly reached out and grabbed Li Wei's ankle. The unexpected turn of events stunned everyone.
By the time they realized what was happening, Li Wei had already been pulled to the ground by He Mang.
With a loud "bang," Li Wei fell and was completely disoriented, his mind a complete blank.
When he came to his senses, he felt himself being lifted up, and a large, iron-like hand gripped his throat tightly.
"Don't come any closer! Get me a car right now, or I'll snap his neck!"
He Mang shouted loudly to the stunned police officers, signaling them to quickly find him a car.
With He Mang choking him, Li Wei felt his brain deprived of oxygen, and his consciousness rapidly drifted away from his body.
At the critical moment, he suddenly touched the pistol.
With the mindset that he might as well die, Li Wei picked up his pistol and fired a shot through his shoulder into his back.
If he didn't do that, he felt he might be strangled to death.
After emptying the magazine in one go, Li Wei felt the hand gripping his neck suddenly loosen.
Caught off guard, he fell to the ground.
He rubbed his stiff neck, and before he could even feel relieved, he felt a tall figure pressing down on him.
Seeing He Mang fall like a mountain crashing down, Li Wei quickly rolled on the ground to avoid him.
With a loud bang, He Mang fell to the ground, kicking up a cloud of dust.
Li Wei let out a long sigh of relief, and then slowly got up with the help of the police officers.
He gestured for the officer to release his grip and slowly walked toward where Copeport was.
