Chapter 24 Huizhen
Chapter 24 Huizhen
As the last dire wolf's throat was choked,
The fire in his heart burst forth, burning the dying flesh and blood into charcoal.
The gladiatorial contest has come to an end.
This time, however, before the kobolds could use the iron hooks to tie his neck, Xinzang, after resting for a while, voluntarily walked towards the cage.
The guards in the distance breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing this, finally letting their guard down.
"I've never seen such a long-legged guy before. He seems to be getting even more ferocious today." A kobold swallowed hard. "I was genuinely startled when he tore open a wolf's neck with his bare hands. I've heard these demon-worshipping bastards always come in waves. What if... there's a whole horde of monsters like that in the wilderness?"
"Come on, you coward," his companion scoffed. "Maybe he's the strongest in the tribe. Besides, so what if he is? Those long-eared guys we captured before, weren't they just good for entertaining the adults in this hellish place? What trouble can a long-legged guy cause? Does he think he's immune to Buddhism?"
"That's true."
"Don't worry about it. This Avici Hell hasn't had any problems in the last hundred years. Buddha has protected our clan for a thousand years, who would dare to cause trouble?"
"I heard that a group of wild men just arrived in the city. They look extraordinary, and several abbots are vying to see them. I'll take you there to broaden your horizons next time I have the chance."
Several kobolds chatted and laughed as they casually pushed the man into the cage, then locked the iron bars.
They didn't even notice that deep inside the cage, the seemingly tamed gladiator's gaze was lingering on their vulnerable necks.
Warm divine power flowed silently in the shadows, mending his wounds.
The king will not be confined to a cage.
The current silence is merely the ascetic monks carrying out the will of the gods.
One day, a raging fire will ignite from the darkness and burn everything to ashes.
……
Meanwhile, on the other side...
In the wilderness, within a certain canyon.
A kobold caravan was braving the sandstorm, transporting a batch of magical artifacts that had been withdrawn from the northern front.
Several strong monks guarded the sides of the procession, while cavalrymen riding land birds led the way.
From the carriage in the center of the procession, thunderous snoring could be heard.
At the rear of the caravan, a young kobold companion, annoyed by the snoring coming from inside the carriage, tried to cover his ears.
Seeing this, his uncle slapped him on the back of the head and scolded him:
"Master Huizhen is all-powerful; quickly stop those petty tricks! If you really anger the master and are punished, how will I explain it to your mother?"
The young kobold was unconvinced and muttered under his breath, "The master in this temple just sleeps as soon as he gets on the carriage. How would he know what's going on outside? It's tough on us though. We have to travel under the scorching sun during the day just to transport this junk."
"Don't say another word!"
The old uncle's eyes widened: "Master, you have the well-being of all people at heart! If it weren't for a group of fearless monsters suddenly appearing in the northern wilderness, why would you have traveled all the way to the south for help? The magical artifacts you're carrying in the cart are all for saving your life in the future!"
"What strange stuff are you talking about? Has anyone around here ever seen anything like it?" The young kobold curled his lip. "It's probably just hearsay, another excuse from these temple masters to force our caravan to do hard labor."
"You little beast..."
Before he could finish speaking...
Suddenly, screams and the sounds of pursuit came from the front of the group.
The uncle and nephew looked in the direction of the sound and saw that the one or two monk soldiers who had been so arrogant just moments before were now fleeing in disarray, abandoning their armor and weapons, and scrambling to escape to the rear of the ranks.
The kobold cavalrymen fell off their land birds and were dragged around by them.
He cried out in terror, "Long-legged man! A long-legged man is robbing us! Master!"
Yellow sand flies.
Suddenly, a group of tall figures appeared on the earthen slopes on both sides.
Although they wore no decent armor and carried only crude stone axes and wooden spears, their agile figures and muscular builds allowed them to swoop down from the heights with such speed that even startled land birds couldn't shake them off.
Seeing that things were not going well, the uncle and nephew turned around and tried to run back the way they came.
But to their despair, they discovered that their escape route had been blocked by that group of long-legged men.
At a critical moment.
The carriage in the center of the procession suddenly exploded, sending wood chips flying and dust billowing out.
A plump figure, enveloped in blinding golden light, slowly stepped out from within.
A loud voice boomed through the canyon:
"I am Master Huizhen of Jinguang Temple, a city-state in the north!"
"How dare you block my way here! You barbarians from other realms really don't take me seriously at all!"
The kobold uncle and nephew were overjoyed, but fearing that the magic might harm them during the battle, they quickly covered their heads and lay face down on the sand, pretending to be dead.
On the hillside.
Chang, the leader of the attack team, looked down and noticed that although the kobold was fat, he had a strong aura and was probably a master of the extraordinary level.
Holding a bronze spear in his left hand and a stone axe in his right, he charged down from the heights.
Taking advantage of the momentum of his sprint, Chang suddenly threw out his left-hand spear.
But then a loud "clang!" was heard.
The bronze spear was blocked by a layer of golden light emanating from Huizhen's body and fell without success.
"Unorthodox methods," Huizhen sneered. "How could a weak warrior possibly break through my golden light protection! Why don't you surrender obediently and save me the trouble?"
Having said that, the kobold mage raised his hand, and golden light shone brightly from his fingertips.
Chang had fallen victim to this tactic before and knew how formidable the supernatural power of these kobolds was; he had taken precautions against it long ago.
He suddenly exerted force with both legs and leaped high into the air.
The golden light spell brushed past him, missing its target.
Having dodged the attack, Chang pressed forward, his stone axe poised to strike from his side.
The kobold mage, however, remained calm and composed, neither dodging nor avoiding, fully confident in his protective golden light. He stood still and began to gather power for his second golden light spell.
As he closed in, Chang twisted his wrist.
The heavy stone axe, imbued with battle aura, slammed down with the full force of the body.
"Snap!"
The golden light shattered.
The kobold mage looked horrified and incredulous, and frantically tried to erect a second layer of golden light.
"How is that possible!"
A loud crash rang out as the back of the axe slammed into the kobold mage.
Although he failed to break through the second layer of golden light, the terrifying impact sent him flying, crashing heavily into the rock wall behind him.
Chang landed to dissipate the force, then picked up his stone axe, intending to quickly pursue the enemy.
But then they saw the arrogant mage who had just been so cocky slide down after hitting the wall and fall face-first to the ground.
He raised both hands high, decisively and cleanly.
