Chapter 25 Since you're from Zaun, then... what? You're not!
Most people in the world unconsciously develop strong thought patterns due to their life experiences.
This kind of habitual thinking is usually inconspicuous and does not cause any trouble. On the contrary, it can help people instinctively solve some life problems.
For example, if you arrive in an unfamiliar city and are about to take the bus, you will subconsciously think that the bus fare will be at most a few dollars, and you will not prepare a budget of hundreds of dollars for the ride.
Just like Aaron before.
After receiving the order for the Cheng Ying tactical mech through the black box, he subconsciously began to replicate the mech using various theories from the original world.
Therefore, they repeatedly encountered setbacks.
It wasn't until Aaron spent a night in the library at Piltover University, witnessing firsthand the various "unreasonable" things on Runeterra, and understanding that many of the fundamental principles of the two worlds were completely different, that he was truly enlightened.
Subsequently, his mech modification plan made rapid progress, and the error frequency dropped to only one, proving that this direction of progress was correct.
Even so, Aaron still forgot to break another habitual way of thinking within himself.
Or rather, in the nine years he'd been in Zaun, he had no idea he'd fallen into the trap of habitual thinking—
Since the Black Box is a product of the subtle connection established between the original world and Runeterra, how could it only absorb science fiction from the original world to form orders, without drawing some kind of "energy" from Runeterra?
This is a stain on Aaron's entire life!
He completely forgot to look at the black box dialectically, and in nine years he never even thought of using the "natives" of Runeterra around him!
"You should have said so earlier, System."
"By having the natives of Runeterra try out the samples, I can gain experience in various modifications that conform to the rules of Runeterra... Why the hell didn't you just say something this important?!"
Aaron squinted and muttered.
Although his tone was calm and his voice was so soft that only he could hear it, Jinx and the others sitting next to him couldn't help but feel a chill run down their spines.
Because Aaron's vacant eyes now seemed to hold a murderous impulse!
"Cough cough, Aaron, are you alright?"
Jinx is the one who shows the most obvious concern for Aaron.
Little did she know that it was her "sudden inspiration" that plunged Aaron into deep regret, making him feel that nine years had been wasted.
So she glanced at the serious-looking Hilco, then at the equally solemn Caitlin beside him, and finally made up her mind. She tiptoed around to Aaron's side, gently massaged Aaron's earlobe, and whispered:
"How about I go with you outside and we can calm down for a bit?"
"...Never mind, let's not waste everyone's time."
Aaron finally spoke.
He tried to suppress the mixture of frustration and anger on his face, took a deep breath, and looked at the others in the room—Sevika, Hilco, and even Caitlin and Zeli, all of whom were sitting upright and looking straight ahead.
We've all gathered here to discuss Urgot and Smit.
If Aaron hadn't been the only one who cleanly and efficiently dealt with the numerous armored monsters, and hadn't seemed to know some inside information about Urgot and thus had the most authority to speak on the matter, everyone else might have already started eagerly expressing their opinions while he was distracted.
While he was distracted, others probably already began eagerly expressing their thoughts.
"Let me say a few words about Urgot first."
……
Aaron explained Urgot's origins and the scene Urgot most wanted to see in the simplest way: everyone in Zaun was in danger, and those who wanted revenge not only began to create chaos, but also flooded into the "Hook" area, becoming prisoners that Urgot could defeat and tame one by one.
After he finished speaking, he explained the weaknesses of the armored monsters and casually mentioned that "Smith is now a puppet who cannot disobey Urgot's orders."
Because Caitlin was also there, Aaron hesitated for a moment and did not mention Urgot's special attention to him.
"That's the general situation. What are your thoughts?"
Aaron was preoccupied with other things, so he spoke very quickly.
After he finished speaking, his gaze swept over everyone, lingering briefly on the thoughtful eyes of Hilko and Sevika before focusing on Caitlin and Zeli.
Zephyr's reaction was nothing special, no different from Jinx's usual reaction:
He rubbed his hands excitedly, feeling that he was about to become famous and eager to let big shots like Hilko know that he had participated in Aaron's glorious achievements.
Caitlin's reaction was more interesting.
This was her first time participating in a gathering of Zaunites.
Furthermore, this gathering took place after a period of great turmoil, and the participants were all extraordinary individuals.
If Caitlyn hadn't already come to regard Jinx as an important ally, she would have thought she should have just flashed her police badge and arrested all these guys in the venue who didn't look like good people!
Oh right, I don't have my police ID with me...
"Well, I'd like to say a few words."
Caitlin, who had almost interrupted when Aaron recounted Urgot's origins, had no intention of relinquishing her speaking opportunity. She took half a step forward and began to speak:
"I believe that Urgot you're talking about really exists."
"As for the claim that he wants to create panic and recruit followers, I will tentatively accept this reasonable speculation."
As she spoke, Caitlin glanced at Jinx, who was squatting next to Aaron—her reason for believing had nothing to do with Aaron, but simply because both she and Jinx had heard Smitch mention Urgot.
"..."
"and then?"
After saying those two sentences, Caitlin stepped back and shut her mouth.
This left the straightforward Sevika completely dumbfounded.
She picked up the conversation, completely baffled as to what this unfamiliar young woman was trying to say:
"Aren't those two sentences obvious? Do we need to verify the information Aaron brought back? Are you even from Zaun?"
"no."
"Since you're from Zaun, how come you... huh? You're not!!"
After Caitlin's crisp reply, not only was Sevika stunned, but a subtle commotion broke out throughout the venue!
The high-ranking officials under Hilco, including Zeli, couldn't help but look at Caitlin.
None of them asked Caitlin about her background or anything.
Because Caitlin was dressed in ordinary Zaunite women's clothing and her hands were still dirty and grimy, everyone subconsciously mistook her for a "volunteer" like Zeli.
The result seems to be...
"I'm not from Zaun, I'm a law enforcement officer from Piltover!"
Caitlin took in everyone's reactions, especially Hillco, who remained unfazed and proudly raised his head.
If Jinx hadn't been so "thoughtful" as to not consider her need for her police ID when she kidnapped her, Caitlin would have immediately reached into her pocket and given a more dashing "self-introduction."
"So I'm sure your intelligence about Urgot isn't just empty talk."
She patted her chest, feeling a sense of "finally getting a chance to shine":
"I am assuring you."
"I, Enforcer Caitlin Giramann, will join you, the righteous men of Zaun, to find Urgot, who has committed an unforgivable crime!"
